Woods made a comeback at the 2022 Masters after surviving a car accident in 2021. He had then finished playing all four rounds at the Augusta National. After the event, he revealed his intention to play only the major events as he is not fit enough to play the entire season.

He won the event first in 1999 with an overall score of 273 and a 2-shot lead from the runner-up Vijay Singh. Like always, Woods even created a record at the event. He became the first and only person to defend his title not only once, but twice in 2000 and 2001.

Notably, the founder and host of the event, the veteran golfer Jack Nicklaus, has only won twice at the tournament. Nicklaus started the tournament in 1976 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. Moreover, Roger Maltbie is the first ever to win the title.
