Golf is a gentleman’s sport, yet its rivalries are well-known. There are some glimpses that the golf world catches now and then. And the world’s grandest stage is preparing to host an age-old show about it. But the tension is not just between Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler vs. World No. 3: A Ryder Cup rivalry

The last time the Ryder Cup was played in 2021 at Whistling Straits, Scottie Scheffler was not the top-ranking golfer. The two players who faced each other then might have an age-old battle to settle this time. Scottie Scheffler defeated Jon Rahm 4 & 3 in the singles matches on the final day.

Spaniard Rahm played a brilliant game of golf and entered the final day of the showdown with a record of 3-0-1. But Scottie swooped the European team member off his feet, giving the American team momentum to win the iconic event. The score was a record-breaking 19-9, with Team USA in the lead.

Scottie Scheffler’s personal record stood at 2-0-1. He was a controversial pick of that season, but the current World No.1 player managed to exclaim the importance of his swing during the Ryder Cup to the golf world. And he will strike back again now!

Rahm and Scheffler have been dominant on the PGA Tour, with some resounding performances. While the Spanish golfer added four wins to his name, the American patriot enjoyed two victories. Watching the two lock horns at Marco Simone will be an exciting sight! And Rory McIlroy might also add a bit more fun to it.

Rory McIlroy also awaits Scheffler both on the course and off it

While Scottie enjoys the World No. 1 ranking, Rory McIlroy sits below him. And it might not take him much to overtake the American player. But Scheffler has dominated every statistic this season. The only thing that prevented him from winning was an ice-cold putter.

On the other hand, Rory McIlroy has missed out in recent tournaments and failed to gain a top position. But the Ryder Cup promises an exciting clash between the two giants of the golf world. While Rory has won 12 out of 24 Ryder Cup matches, Scheffler proved himself an underdog waiting to unleash his prowess.

But the three players in the counting have more in common than one would imagine. They have been the most consistent tour pros in the world ranking, often shuffling amongst each other. The three also showed extreme loyalty to the PGA Tour by turning down tempting offers from LIV Golf. Even though competitions led to on-field rivalries, they also gave birth to unintended similarities between the golfing greats.
