The 2022 PGA Championship began at the Southern Hills on May 19. Moreover, the golf world is happy to see their favorite golfers compete against each other to win the second major of the season. However, the news about the former world no. 1 injuring a reporter at the event has made everyone upset.

According to Geoff Shackelford of Quadrilateral, Jon Rahm’s tee shot has hit the ESPN reporter, making her bleed on Thursday. “Saw her on the ground,” an eyewitness told the Quadrilateral. “Holding her nose, mouth, or chin area, covered in blood.”

According to the reporter, he was behind the tee box when Rahm hit his shot. The ball went into the trees on the left; however, the impact caused it to bounce back to the fairway.

None of the on-course reporters reported a reporter being hit. However, according to one of the PGA Satellite listeners, the radio mentioned the incident in during broadcasting. According to the Twitter content, he first said, “Paige Steele” got hit in the mouth. However, he later corrected himself and said, “‘Sage’ was hit.”

According to New York Post, the incident happened while Sage Steele was watching the tournament. The host of ESPN’s SportsCenter watched the event from the gallery of credentialed media after ending her work for the day.

Some sources told the NY Post that Steele went back to her home in Connecticut after she got discharged from the hospital. Furthermore, she will not be coming back to the Southern Hills this week to continue her work. 

Notably, ESPN hasn’t reported anything related to the incident yet. Even when the media houses reached out to them for comments regarding the incident, they refused to give any.

It seems that the former world no.1 had a terrible day on round 1 at the Southern Hills as his tee shot hurt a person. According to the reports, neither he nor his caddie was aware of the situation.

Furthermore, he didn’t get a good result in the competition either. He had scored a 73 in round one. However, he redeemed himself and scored a 69 in the second round, which made him advance to the final two rounds. However, he is still not in the top positions, as he has an overall of 2-over par.
