“Sick of What He Does”: Days After an Embarrassing Defeat, Phil Mickelson’s Nemesis Provokes Justin Thomas With a ‘Ridiculous’ Statement
Until the Ryder Cup discussions became the focal point for the golf world, Phil Mickelson was the buzz for the previous few months. Writers mentioning Mickelson and his gambling in their books led to excerpts of allegations flying all over social media. Alan Shipnuck was one writer who wrote about Lefty.
Now, a recent excerpt from Shipnuck’s book has gathered attention for itself. This time it’s not about Phil Mickelson, though. Unexpectedly, Justin Thomas got triggered by its evidence-less claims and expressed his frustration. He is probably already upset about the Ryder Cup loss. Now he has voiced out his contempt for the note despite it not being about JT himself.

A recent tweet from a journalist came with a passage from Alan Shipnuck’s book. The passage was titled “Anonymous Former Ryder Cup teammate on Rory Mcilroy.” The note spoke bitterly about McIlroy’s alleged savior image on Twitter.
This is how the note started off: “F*ck Rory. I’m sick of hearing about how he’s some kind of hero who is saving golf.” It further claimed that McIlroy is also bought and paid like everyone else. The anonymous former teammate claimed that the only difference is McIlroy was getting his money from “the other side.”

The note ended by bashing “podcasters” for being fanboys for McIlroy. It complained that people understood very little about what was actually going on. A triggered Justin Thomas shared his fierce condemnation of the tweet.
I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we’re sick of @AlanShipnuck doing what he does. Bring positivity and good stories to help grow the game of golf, not try and make money bashing guys, earning zero trust, with a lot of incorrect information. Ridiculous

Such allegations have come from the book before, about Phil Mickelson’s gambling issue as well. The book claimed he had spent several millions in gambling, and had lost significantly. It also claimed that Phil Mickelson once referred to the Saudis as “scary motherf*****s.” Now, it looks like the arrowhead is pointing at McIlroy.
Coming back to JT, here is how he responded to the tweet, which resulted in a bit of an exchange.

“I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we’re sick of @AlanShipnuck doing what he does.” JT wrote. He also requested writers to work on good stories and bring positivity that can help boost the sport.
A journalist felt compelled to respond to JT’s tweet. He wrote that fanboying and writing puffed-up pieces on stars like Rory McIlroy can’t be called journalism. He added that a passionate journalist would want to all the sides, good and bad.
JT agreed with the idea that all sides have to be covered. He mentioned how people are far from perfect and even laughed at it himself. Then he reiterated how frustrating it is to get bashed by anonymous sources of accusations. The journalist too met JT halfway and agreed that the anonymity is indeed frustrating.
