The professional golf tournament 3M Open will soon see its fourth and last round kick off in a few hours at the TPC Twin Cities, Minnesota. Defending champion Tony Finau is seen giving his fellow competitors a tough time on the course. However, do you know that the incredible golfer is a huge Tiger Woods admirer and has always drawn inspiration from him?

Yes, Finau has always looked up to Woods who is not playing in the said tournament as he is recovering post-surgery. Finau has admitted his affection for Woods many a time. He bared his heart on the legend when Woods suffered a car crash in 2021. Let’s revisit the story.

In 2021, the 82-time PGA Tour winner suffered an extremely serious car accident due to which he was hospitalized. Everyone was praying for his quick recovery, including Finau. He even shared how Woods had influenced his career.

In a post shared by Golf Channel in 2021, the American golfer was seen talking about Woods. Finau revealed that Mr. T meant a lot to the sport. He stated, “Yeah, I mean, he means a lot of this to the game of golf. I can only speak from my experience.”

“He means a lot to my career,” the six-time PGA tour winner concluded.

33-year-old Finau, who is currently sitting in the third position at the 3M Open, further talked about the legend’s win at the 1997 Masters champion and how it altered his life and career for good. He also went on to confess that without that event, he would not be where he is now. This demonstrates Woods’ impact on up-and-coming golfers.

Woods too had expressed his views on the young player back in 2019 when they both got a chance to play together in the Masters Tournament. Fate can do extraordinary things!

A peek into the 2019 Masters Tournament

The Augusta National Golf Club proved to be fortunate for Finau as he got a chance to play with his role model in a major. There, he was also able to nail a hole-in-one shot at a par-3. He even tied a Masters record by unleashing six straight birdies which led him to play with Woods in the final group.

Due to the bad weather, however, his performance got affected and he eventually tied for the 5th position at the end of the tournament. However, the 47-year-old golfer lauded him after the event with kind words and asserted that Finau would sure win a major championship one day.
