After playing for many years, there will be many instances in a golfer’s life—some shocking, some unfortunate! But it is what makes a golfer good at their art. In the case of Jordan Speith, he has had more than one, starting the missed 3-footers saga.

1. The missed 3-footers by Spieth: The missed 3-footers are not leaving Jordan Spieth alone. The first missed putt was in 2022 at the Valero Texas Open. Spieth took a shot, missed the putt from 3 feet 3 inches, took another from a foot, missed that as well, and then finally made the par-4 16th hole.

A similar instance happened in the third round of The Sentry 2024. At the par-5 15th hole, the former world No. 1 geared up for a birdied putt, straightened his form, and hit the shot, only for the ball to bounce off the edge of the hole. Although he then putted from the foot and ended up 19 under at T3.

2. Spieth’s wild round at the Hero World Challenge: On the list of miraculous rounds, round one at the 2023 Hero World Challenge stands second. In the 18 holes, the 12-time PGA Tour winner made one double bogey, four singles, two eagles, six birdies, and the rest were at par.

After the wild round, the tally might have been expected to drop, but the bogeys were tallied by the birdies and eagles, and the score came out to be four under 68. After round one, Spieth was one stroke behind T1 players Brian Harman and Tony Finau.

3. An absurd tee shot hitting a fan: To make the cut at the 2023 Player Championship, Spieth needed to make par or better at the last hole. Although the tee shot was headed into the water, fortunately for Spieth but unfortunately for the fan whose knees it hit.

It made the ball bounce off and make it to the fairway rather than into the water. In the end, the three-time major champion eagled the hole and finished at par but made the cut. Later, Spieth gave the fan his glove, as he quite literally saved him.

4. Making a quadruple bogey at the Masters: Missing 3-footers was hilarious, but this quadruple bogey cost Spieth his chance of defending his title during the 2016 Augusta showdown. On the final round, Sunday, Spieth was leading the scoreboard. However, that changed drastically once he faced the par-3 12th hole in front of the water.

The 2015 Masters champion hit the first shot directly into Ray’s Creek (no fan’s knee was there to protect him this time), then into the sand bunker, and eventually, he had 7 on the 12th hole, and the chances of winning the 2016 Masters slipped away with the quadruple bogey. A similar instance occurred in the 2017 Masters, where he made another quadruple bogey.

5. The risky cliff shot: At the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, during the third round, Spieth took a daredevil shot from the edge of the cliff. The par-4 8th hole at Pebble Beach is set right across the edge of the cliff. But the 30-year-old did not hesitate and took a shot. It landed near the right of the greenside bunker. The ball was safe, and so was Jordan Spieth from the scary shot.
