The hype in the golfing world finally reached its peak as the Arnold Palmer Invitational crowned Scottie Scheffler as its champion. Moreover, with the win, the golfer was able to solidify his position as No. 1 in the world. However, as he does secure the top spot, there is one person who lost his opportunity to reclaim the same; none other than Rory McIlroy. But even so, he couldn’t help but dish out compliments for the American Pro.

The 38-time PGA Tour champ took to an interview following the recent signature event at the Bay Hill Golf Course after finishing T21 at the tournament. While doing so, he was asked about Scheffler and his performance in recent times, to which he was all praise for the golfer, even going ahead to dub him “incredible!”

“He’s been super consistent,” said McIlroy when asked about the golfer’s gameplay. He continued, “I think being as consistent as Scottie has been is really, really difficult in this game.” Adding on, the Northern Irishman dubbed “the consistent performances that Scottie’s been putting in week-in and week-out every time he tees it up” as nothing short of “incredible!”

The 4-time major champ also mentioned how “it’s super impressive” that he was able to dish out a 6-under 66 on a “super tough golf course.” What’s more, he couldn’t help but commend his gameplay, especially his ball striking, as he said, “His ball striking is, honestly, on another level compared to everyone else right now. We knew if he started to hole putts, then this sort of stuff would happen.”

Interestingly, the 34-year-old had earlier suggested that the current No. 1 in the world change his older putter to a mallet putter as the golfer was experiencing struggles with his putting. Well, coincidentally, Scheffler went ahead to change his club to the one McIlroy mentioned during the Arnold Palmer Invitational, as he was spotted using a TaylorMade Spider Tour X (X1) putter with a 3-degree loft and 72-degree lie angle.

Although he finished a T10 at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, it would have been an experience he would wish to forget owing to the amount of struggle he met due to his putting. Nevertheless, the recent performance displayed a new Scheffler on the greens as he took to dominate the course in a grand fashion.

The 7-time PGA Tour champ scored a total of 20 birdies along with a single eagle to register a score of 15-under-273 over the four days of play. Meanwhile, on the final day of play, he carded out a total of six of the same while managing to score a birdie on the 15th and 16th holes on all days except Thursday.

Such a dominant display of golf comes as nothing short of inspiring and admirable after missing six birdies at Riviera. What’s more, he had even gone ahead to ram the club to his own foot on the 16th hole at Riviera Country Club after his ball missed the hole from 10 feet. Regardless, it appears the golfer has managed to get back to his game at the recent signature event. Surely he is the world No.1 for a reason.
