3-time major-winning golf icon gets asked a baffling question at the Scottish Open

In his long and eminent career, Padraig Harrington has accomplished numerous feats on the golf course. Harrington has won a total of 21 titles on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, which also include 3 major victories! His second inning on the PGA Tour Champions circuit has been just as fulfilling, with the Irishman lifting the coveted US Senior Open trophy in 2022.

While the 51-year-old has taken on many daunting challenges as a golfer, his most unique one yet came in the form of an innocent but blunt question on Saturday. As Harrington interacted with fans at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, one young boy naively inquired, “Did you play good or rubbish?” “I played good,” came the golfer’s prompt reply.

PGA Tour Champions shared the adorable clip on Twitter, following which it went viral. The golfer also shared the video, writing “I lied” in the caption.

The 6-time PGAT winner stands at -7 after finishing par on Saturday. It was Harrington’s worst round so far in the tournament. However, he is still in the top 20 and cannot be ruled out just yet. Meanwhile, fellow Irish golfer and World No. 3 Rory McIlroy is at the helm of the leaderboard with a one-shot lead.

Rory McIlroy leads the Scottish Open by one over Tom Kim

On Sunday, at the Renaissance Club, Rory McIlroy will have the chance to accomplish something he has never done before: win a trophy in Scotland. But the 34-year-old has come close a bunch of times. He has had five top-four finishes at the Dunhill Links Championship. McIlroy has also finished in the top three at the Open Championships in Scotland three times: twice in St. Andrews and once at Carnoustie.

Even the golfer himself thinks that a win in Scotland is long overdue. “I remember playing my first Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in 2005. It’s nice to reminisce, and I’ve come a long way since then, but 18 years is too long for me to not pick up a trophy in this country,” the 4-time major winner confessed after his third-round performance.

Amidst the windy conditions on day three, McIlroy carded a 3-under 67 for a total of -13. Despite missing an eagle attempt from just over 3 feet and a birdie putt from 5 feet, he still has a fighting lead over Tom Kim. The 21-year-old Kim shot a 67 for a total of 12-under 198. Tommy Fleetwood’s impressive third-round 63 put him at 11-under 199. He is two shots off the lead and is tied with Brian Harman (67).
