With the Ryder Cup 2023 having come to an end, it has been a rather bitter end for the Americans. Indeed, talks about the next edition have already crept in. Perhaps, then, this is an attempt to end the day on a hopeful note. With any discussion about a Ryder Cup, naturally, Tiger Woods becomes a part of it.

A recent statement made by a veteran golfer has given hopes and dreams to the fans of the legend. While it is too early to talk about it, this is still an exciting prospect. However, this time, the speculations are not about him playing in the Ryder Cup.

Paul Azinger, a former professional golfer and golf analyst, has shared his thoughts on Tiger Woods’ potential involvement in the Ryder Cup 2025. He opines that there is a strong possibility of Woods being the next Ryder Cup captain.

Azinger spoke about how the Bethpage Black course has a history with Tiger Woods and that might influence such a decision. Speaking of the course, Sergio Garcia also has a strong connection to that course, and with the sparks flying between the two stalwarts, it would actually be one epic clash. Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though.

The tweet shared Azinger’s statement and also commented that this is the most sense he has made all week. Azinger had said, “Bethpage Black would be a perfect matchup for he and … Sergio Garcia, actually, who, you never know. Two years from now, where we’re going to be.” Well, yes, it’s a long time and anything could happen. But this is still a thrilling prospect to think about.

Both Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia have a strong history with the Bethpage Black course. The course is popular for hosting Major Championships, and the 2002 US Open is one memorable event that the course hosted. That tournament played a crucial role in the careers of both the gentlemen mentioned above.

For the unversed, here is a recap of the legendary US Open of 2002, played at the Bethpage Black course, in New York.

Among other battles on the course, there was an epic clash between Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia in the tournament. Woods finished the first round with a 3-under on the par-70 course. Sergio Garcia followed up close with a 2-under. Only the top three players on the table had scored within par in the first round. The course is perhaps as difficult as it’s hyped up to be.

After the second round, Garcia dropped to a shared third position, with 1-over in total. In the third round, though, Garcia came up again to the second position with a total score of 1-under, while Tiger Woods maintained his 5-under score.

Finally, after the fourth round, Tiger Woods finished first in the tournament, followed by Phil Mickelson finishing second. Sergio Garcia finished in the fourth position.
