In the high-stakes world of professional golf, personal battles often remain hidden behind the spotlight. One such poignant story comes from the wife of PGA Tour pro Adam Hadwin, who recently opened up about her harrowing journey through infertility, marked by unexplained struggles, two miscarriages, and chromosomal issues. In an emotional Instagram post, she described the rollercoaster of emotions, from the initial rush of hope to the agonizing crawl of repeated losses, saying, “Once I thought I understood it, I was ready to claim a quick victory… but then time slowed to an agonizing crawl.”
That brave voice is Jessica Hadwin. During National Infertility Awareness Week, she shared her story, bringing attention to a struggle many face but few talk about. The birth of Jessica and Adam’s daughter, Maddox, in January 2020 brought a profound shift, igniting a passion in Jessica and Adam to support others facing similar challenges. Now they are getting the recognition they deserve for it.
Recently, one of Jessica’s closest friends, Elizabeth Skaggs, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post about her journey with infertility. She highlighted the significance of late April, which marks National Infertility Awareness Week and coincides with her own transfer-versary, the day her daughter Maren began growing inside her. Elizabeth expressed her gratitude for friends like Jessica Hadwin and her husband, Adam, who do amazing work through the Hadwin Family Foundation.

“Sharing my friend @jessicahadwin’s post this year because she summed up my feelings so precisely. She and her husband, Adam, do some amazing work through the @hadwinfamilyfoundation, and I’m proud to call her my friend. With Mother’s Day on the horizon, let this serve as a reminder that every mom’s journey to motherhood looks different. And for those who aren’t yet on the other side of infertility, stay strong”, she wrote in her story.
Adam and Jessica opened the Hadwin Family Foundation back in 2020, driven by their personal experiences with pregnancy loss and infertility, and have been doing amazing work ever since. The Hadwin Family Foundation recently hosted its Charity Golf Event at Flint Hills National Golf Club, which proved to be another successful fundraiser. Through events like this, the foundation has awarded eight full Maddy’s Miracle Grant IVF cycles, resulting in three babies born and one on the way.
Jessica reposted Elizabeth’s story, which fondly recalled their time working together in the RE’s office during Elizabeth’s challenging journey to become a mom. Jessica was particularly touched by Elizabeth’s kind words, remembering how gentle and supportive she was during those difficult times. “Elizabeth worked at our RE’s office when I was in the darkest points of trying to become a mom, and she was always so gentle with us as we navigated the process.”

Which is the exact motivation Hadwins needed to commit nearly $70,000 to their Genetic Testing Fund, supporting the KU Wichita Pediatrics Division of Genetics. The foundation expressed gratitude to participants, donors, sponsors, and volunteers, highlighting the impact of their collective efforts in making a difference for families navigating infertility and genetic challenges.
Jessica Hadwin opens up about her experience of motherhood
“It’s clichéd, but motherhood means everything now. And maybe more than if I hadn’t struggled so much.” After experiencing two previous pregnancy losses, Jessica and her husband Adam welcomed their “rainbow baby,” Maddox, in January 2020 via IVF. The journey to motherhood was marked by physical and emotional challenges, including daily injections and uncertainty. As Jessica recalls, “You’re going through so much on the physical and emotional aspect, and we haven’t really had to think about the financial burden.” The cost of IVF can be overwhelming, with some families exhausting their savings and going into debt.

Are the Hadwins redefining what it means to be a sports couple with their foundation work?
Have an interesting take?
The Hadwins’ experience inspired them to start The Hadwin Family Foundation and Maddy’s Miracle Grant, which provides financial assistance to families struggling with infertility. “Having Maddy’s Miracle Grant has really opened my eyes to how much that piece is weighted in the process. It’s make-or-break for most people,” Jessica says. The grant has been life-changing for recipients, alleviating some of the financial burden and stress associated with IVF. As Jessica notes, “One less worry, at the time, is the financial aspect of that.” The foundation, as we talked earlier, aims to give families the opportunity to experience the joy of motherhood, just as the Hadwins have with their daughter Maddox.
