While each sport has its unique belief system, the players make sure that they follow it, no matter what, for a roll of good luck during and after the game. In the game of golf, most players tend to celebrate their victory or the end of their campaign in a peculiar way. And a similar thing occurred at the recently ended 3M Open.

Tensions were high in Minnesota as the final round saw the American pro golfer Lee Hodges lift the trophy. But the built-up pressure was much eased as the winner engaged in a heartwarming post-round celebration of sorts which left the fans much curious and touched! Let’s find out more.

Lee Hodges and his post-match ritual

The American golfer was able to mark his name in the annals of history after claiming his first-ever win on the PGA Tour. As Lee Hodges went ahead to claim the title of the winner in the 2023 3M Open, he was seen taking part in a celebratory custom with his coach who flew in to watch his apprentice’s final round.

When asked about the same, he went on to reply how that custom had been in place for a long time at their university in Alabama. Jay Seawell, the coach for the Alabama Men’s Golf team, would take the players out to get milkshakes every time they won a tournament. In the video, he is seen receiving the milkshake and hugging his mentor after the pro golfer went ahead to finish the fourth round and win the tournament.

“So that was incredible…that he brought me a milkshake,” said Hodges while responding to a question about the drink at the post-victory interview. “That’s super special, something I’ll remember forever” continued the golfer as he recounted the heartwarming moment where his coach congratulated him with the special gift.

Hodges at the 3M Open, winner by a big margin

The American pro golfer went ahead to post a score of 67 (-4) in the final round on Sunday to take home the trophy. He was awarded a prize money of $1,404,000 from the overall purse of $7.8 million. The seven-stroke win helped him finish at the top with a score of 24-under-par 260.

He now has a total of two victories in his professional career. The previous one came for him on the Korn Ferry Tour at the 2020 WinCo Foods Portland Open. Moreover, he has managed to climb to the 54th place on the Official World Golf Rankings. Ecstatic on the victory, the golfer will be looking forward to carrying this momentum toward his next stop on the PGA Tour.
