“The PIP program or however we are ever going to do something like that going forward,” Woods further added. “It’s trying to take care of the players that have obviously done a lot for the Tour.”
The PGA Tour introduced the PIP or Players Impact Program in 2021. The program rewards the players for making an impact on the fans of the sport. By the end of a year, it rewards the top 10 who made an impact on the people on different platforms.
Tiger had won the 2021 PIP money of $8 million as the first on the list. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson won the second and bagged $6 million as a reward. Notably, the purse money of the PIP was $40 million in 2021.
The 3-6 ranked players, McIlroy, Spieth, DeChambeau, and Thomas, won $3.5 million. Furthermore, the 7-10 players on the list, Johnson, Koepka, Rahm, and Watson, earned $3 million each.
The program was a way the Tour showed its appreciation to the top players for raising awareness about the sport. And Tiger believes that the programs like PIP are a way to make things change on the Tour.
Tiger Woods named the shortcomings of the PGA Tour!
“How we (top players) are marketed and used in events that we are not even playing in,” Tiger pointed out the fault he thinks of the Tour. “So that in itself is an issue right there,” he added.
Tiger explained that he had many arguments and discussions over the topic with the authorities of the PGA.
