Tiger Woods is an inspiration for all the aspiring golfers in the world. He did not just win the championships, but used to own it entirely by creating records. His records 36 records at the Masters Tournament are a big example of it.

While it might sound like an exaggeration, Woods has indeed created 36 records at the Augusta Nationals.

After turning pro in 1996 at the age of 20, it took Woods only a year to win his first-ever major championship, the 1997 Masters. And he has created 27 records in his first win, out of which ten are still unbroken.

Tiger Woods unbeaten records at the 1997 Masters

The major record he created at the Augusta in 1997 was when he beat the field with his 12-shot lead. While creating the new record, Woods broke Jack Nickalus’ 9-shot lead record of 1965.

Furthermore, he holds the record of being the youngest to win the event; He was a 21-years-old at the moment. 

His 26 3s, 9-stroke lead after 56 holes, 66 and 65 scores in the second and third round are some of the other records he has created at the 1997 Masters. Moreover, he is also one of the 13 champions who have played the event as amateurs.

Two decades of records!

The Augusta National kept helping Woods to make more records after the 90s. And it resulted in another set of Masters’ records. 

He is one of the three golfers to win the event in back-to-back years. He won the 2001 and 2002 Masters and joined Nicklaus and Sir Nick Faldo with the record.

Furthermore, His 66 in the third round in 2003 was the lowest round played by a defending champion. However, Jordan Spieth had leveled the record later in 2016 after he scored the same in the first round. 

With his record of scoring the most number of birdies at the 2005 event, he also managed to score the least number of pars by the winner. The least number of pars by a champion, most eagles in one event, and most birdies in a row are some of the other greatest achievements of Woods at the Augusta.

Moreover, with his 2019 Masters, Woods is currently the oldest to win the event five times. Only Jack Nicklaus and Tiger have won five Masters in their career.
