Who would support Tiger Woods on the greens? Isn’t that the big question? Back in 2023, he had employed Rob McNamara and his daughter, Sam Woods, on the bags at the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship, respectively. However, it appears that the legend has turned his attention to someone else for the upcoming event on the PGA Tour, the Genesis Invitational.

A tweet was shared by TWLEGION on its X handle (previously known as Twitter), divulging how the 15-time major champ has reportedly employed a veteran caddie for the upcoming tourney. However, surprisingly, sources also indicate that the golfer is also open to other loopers for the 2024 season!

The post shared by the fan page mentioned how, as per sources that reported to Adam Schupak, Woods has a “new caddie on the bag at Riviera.” Interestingly, the golfer would be employing none other than Lance Bennett, the looper who helped Matt Kuchar win the 2012 Players Championship, as a caddie for the event to which he would be playing host this week.

Moreover, it appears the 82-time PGA Tour champ would reportedly keep him for the 2024 edition of the Players Championship as well as the upcoming Masters Tournament. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the 48-year-old would also be looking at “multiple caddies this season” instead of just keeping Bennett.

The bagman is currently looping full-time for Tour rookie Adrien Dumont de Chassart. The golfing legend and Dumont de Chassart are supposedly managed by the same agency. This, along with the fact that the KFT pro wouldn’t be playing in any fields this week, has undoubtedly added value to the reports of Bennett being on the bags while making it easy for him to do the same.

Woods employing another caddie and a veteran this time around has truly increased the hype in the golfing world. Nevertheless, it is natural to be curious about the caddie who is, reportedly, soon to be helping the legend out on the bags.

Lance Bennett as a professional caddie

Bennett started to caddie professionally for athletes around 19 years ago. The looper has, since then, managed to carry the bags for many professionals, including the likes of Kuchar, Sungjae Im, and Davis Riley on the PGA Tour, while helping out Juli Inkster, Paula Creamer, and Lorena Ochoa on the women’s circuit.

The bagman has appeared three times for the prestigious Ryder Cup, which he terms one of his “greatest memories as a caddie.” Meanwhile, his greatest “golf memory” includes him carding two holes in one despite not playing the sport professionally or at a collegiate level. Inspiring, isn’t it? However, if the reports do turn out to be true, it seems he would be able to add yet another souvenir to his memories. Well, one can only wait and see!
