2022 was nothing but a rewarding year for Scottie Scheffler. Until this year, he was just a Tour player without a win; however, today, he is a 3-time PGA winner with a 3-shot lead at the Masters after the third round. And as a veteran of the sport, Tiger Woods understands how Scottie achieved this feat.

“The way he (Scheffler) has been playing…” Woods began as he explained Scheffler’s winning streak. “It’s kind of what we were talking about in the practice rounds with Fred (Couples).” 

Woods explained that Scheffler is having the same winning streak as Fred Couples in 1992. “Scottie’s doing the same thing,” he said.

Fred Couples had an incredible career in the first few months of 1992. He had won three PGA Tour events, including the Masters in the year. Couples had also earned more than $1.3 million in 1992, which got him to the top of the money list. 

Furthermore, the victories led him to receive many honors like the Arnold Palmer Award and PGA of America Player of the Year.

Tiger Woods thinks Scottie Scheffler can win the Masters!

“We all wish we had that two, three-month window when we get hot,” Woods said. He explained the merits of having a good couple of months in one’s career. “And, hopefully, majors fall somewhere along in that window,” he added. 

“Scottie seems to be in that window right now,” Woods admitted. Woods didn’t actually say that the 25-year-old will win the 2022 Masters. However, his words indicated that Scheffler has a chance of winning at the Augusta National since he is in his element. 

Is 2022 Scottie Scheffler’s year? 

Before this year, Scheffler didn’t even have a win on the PGA Tour. Yet, now, he is the world no.1 with a World Golf Championship victory. 

His first victory on the Tour came at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Scheffler won the event in a playoff against one of the best golfers in the world, Patrick Cantlay. 21 days later, he bagged his second win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a 1-shot lead. 

Furthermore, the World Golf Championship became his third win in his last 5 starts. Scheffler became the no. 1 on the Official World Golf Rankings with his WGC win. Moreover, the golfer became the only player to win three events this season.

Additionally, after the third round at the Masters, he is on top of the leaderboard with a 3-shot lead.
