The Timber Tech Championship is currently under way at the Broken Sound Club – The Old Course. A set of 49 PGA Tour players are competing at the 6,807-yard course for the prize pool of $2,200,000, out of which the winner takes home $350,000.

The competition and thrill are intense heading into the final day with an Irish golfer leading the event. This will be his second title in the year 2023 if the win materializes. But nothing worth comes easy. Similarly, chasing the lead is Bernhard Langer, known for his exceptional performance under pressure. Padraig Harrington is on the verge of capturing his second win this season. He is the solo leader at the Timber Teach Championship but with a tiny margin of one shot. His first round was beautifully executed with birdies and an unfortunate double bogeys. The second round which was a bogey-free round of 5 under par got him the solo lead at the event.

However, this bogey-free round had a lot of birdie misses that got translated into pars. Harrington in an interview with the PGA Tour commented on how he felt he hit a wall during the round, “I missed a few putts, didn’t hit as many good shots and I wasn’t feeling good about my round. I was feeling like I’d left a lot behind.”

However, he was patient enough to wait for the birdies to start rolling in and eventually, his patience was rewarded with birdies back to back on the 16th and the 17th hole. It was these two that gave him the lead. But when asked about Bernhard Langer chasing him for the lead, he acknowledged him being fierce when he’s around the lead and said “I know I won’t have it easy tomorrow.”

The 2x Open Championship winner, however, did not hesitate in pointing out that a “good situation” that he hopes will pan out. He said, “If the two of us play well enough that, you know, we move away from the rest of the field and maybe we’ve got, between the two of us.” The golfer is known for his candid nature of talking as has been seen before as well.

Three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington once shared his respect for the Saudi-funded LIV Golf in an interview before the European Tour’s HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. He appreciated LIV Golf’s 54-hole format, which is similar to the PGA Champions Tour, and the fact that LIV Golf broadcasts all its players, not just those in contention.

Harrington highlighted the contrast between the predictability of LIV Golf events and the unpredictability of the PGA Tour, emphasizing that the PGA Tour’s larger fields make it hard to tell who will be on the leaderboard. While Harrington’s perspective has merit, opinions on the lack of predictability in the PGA Tour versus the familiarity of LIV Golf events vary among golf fans.
