Most NFL wide receivers spend their off-days reviewing film or recovering in ice baths. Parker Washington? He was in a PGA Tour production booth, zooming in on ball flights and crafting slow-motion replays like a seasoned editor. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver didn’t just show up at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas—he got the full production tour.

Washington was shown around the switch room, where directors cut between 20+ camera angles in real time, and the sound room, where engineers balance crowd noise with commentator calls to deliver seamless golf broadcasts. The best part? The PGA Tour connected it all back to NFL game production, showing Washington how the same broadcast principles that capture his touchdowns on Sundays also track drives and putts on tour.

The official Instagram post featuring this crossover went absolutely viral, racking up over 150,000 likes and sparking memes across both sports worlds. The caption perfectly summed up the vibe: “Can confirm: @CPW11_ definitely has a future in video editing 👀” – a cheeky nod to both the slick production and his legitimate love for golf, which, by the way, he has talked about in the past.

Last year, before the training camp began, he talked about wanting to golf with his teammates. “I gotta get some work in. I’ll spend some time with some of the receivers as well, probably golf a little bit,” he said. “I just want to continue to grow in his offseason. Continue to be healthy. I want to continue to get as much production as possible with that,” Washington mentioned.

Then, Parker Washington also once discussed wanting to improve his swing, saying, “Me, Elijah, Seth Williams, the receiver room, we like to golf,” Washington said. “We do a lot of golf, and I’m trying to get my golf game right. I love spending time with my family.”

Then things got hilarious. Washington hit the live floor and flexed for the cameras like he owned the place. He sat down for a mock interview for a Production Manager role—complete with over-the-top hand gestures and fake executive jargon—before visiting the NFL switch room to see how his own games get produced. Washington’s closing line summed up his emotion: “That was crazy, I enjoyed it.” His one-day contract was signed off with a wink and a laugh.

The 23-year-old’s crossover moment comes during a breakout 2025 season.

Through Week 7, Washington has posted 17 receptions for 207 yards and a touchdown, but it’s his special teams work that’s turning heads. His franchise-record 96-yard punt return touchdown against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in Week 5 showcased the explosive playmaking ability that made him a Penn State standout.

Before the NFL, Washington ranked among Penn State’s top-15 all-time in receptions (146), receiving yards (1,920), and touchdowns (12). The Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he’s been steadily carving out his role.

Athletic versatility runs in Washington’s family. His sister, Ashton Washington, became the first full-time female scout in Chicago Bears history in August 2021 and currently serves as Player Personnel Coordinator. His cousin, Joshua Dobbs, plays quarterback for the New England Patriots and earned the nickname “The Passtronaut” for his background in aerospace engineering.

Washington’s production booth adventure fits a growing trend of NFL stars crossing into golf’s spotlight.

Parker Washington’s presence solidifies the NFL-PGA Tour crossover

The American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe has become the gold standard for these crossovers, regularly featuring Travis Kelce, Aaron Rodgers, and Josh Allen competing in front of 80,000+ fans across three days. Rodgers even won the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am alongside Ben Silverman, proving NFL quarterbacks can handle more than just play-action passes.

These crossover events deliver serious business results. The 2023 American Century Championship drew 1.4 million viewers on NBC, while celebrity participation consistently boosts social media engagement and ticket sales. For the PGA Tour, partnering with NFL stars brings younger, digitally-engaged audiences to golf. For NFL players, it offers brand-building opportunities beyond the gridiron.

The Shriners Children’s Open has embraced this formula, regularly inviting celebrity guests for pro-am rounds and behind-the-scenes experiences. Washington’s production tour takes the concept further—not just playing golf, but showing fans how tournament broadcasts come together. The viral reception proves fans crave authentic crossover content that goes beyond traditional celebrity appearances. Whether Washington’s one-day contract leads to future golf adventures remains to be seen, but his production booth debut proved he’s got skills both on and off the field.
