The 2024 WM Phoenix Open is turning out to be a nightmare! This event on the PGA Tour has a history of running since the 1930s. But it looks like that history is getting tarnished this year. First, the weather conditions and frequent delays made it impossible to enjoy a good round of golf.

It was followed by drunk fans causing mayhem on the greens, leading to officials temporarily shutting down gates. Now to add fuel to the fire, the third round is delayed due to frost. This begs the question: Will the event even see a final round of gameplay?

The PGA Tour Communications just updated the fans via a post on X that the third round is delayed. They sent out a tweet stating, “The resumption of Round 3 at the WM Phoenix Open is delayed 30 minutes due to frost and is now scheduled at 8 AM MT.” This was followed by three additional fifteen minutes of delays, making the resumption time 8:45 AM.

The good news in all this is that the third round of gameplay is bound to happen. However, the same cannot be said about the final round. With the frequent delays in the third round, the final round is also getting pushed backward. So fans can expect a Monday finish rather than a Sunday one now.

The 2024 WM Phoenix Open is in shambles due to weather

However, considering they are playing the third round today and whatever happened in the last two days, the officials can follow the previous PGA Tour event’s strategy. Chances are the 2024 WM Phoenix Open never sees a final round, and the event is suspended by the end. In this case, another golfer who sits on the top after the third round can be marked as a winner like Wyndham Clark on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

But it depends on whether the weather reports are similar to those of the other days. Unfortunately, the weather conditions are also playing their own game. While the Sunday temperature was predicted to be sunny, it has not turned out that way as there are delays due to frost.

Furthermore, as the day progresses, winds are going to pick up a speed of 6+ miles per hour. The temperature is going to vary between 58 degrees and 36 degrees. If the event is delayed till Monday, the golfers will be facing an 8+ miles per hour wind. The temperature on Monday will vary between 63 degrees and 37 degrees.

Whatever solution to this problem the officials come up with, one thing is for certain. The 2024 WM Phoenix Open has left a sour taste in the mouths of many golf fans.
