Just one more day for the exciting tournament to come to an end. Yes, we are talking about the second event on the 2024 PGA Tour calendar, the Sony Open. Well, after duking it out against the field of 144 golfers over three days, it appears to be Grayson Murray who has set himself up for a win in Hawaii with a total of 14-under.

But, even though he was able to put up a scintillating display on the course, his stories off the same don’t seem to be exactly a joyride. The American star has, over time, come face-to-face with a lot of incidents that have sparked criticism and debate against him in the community. Nevertheless, some truly top the list!

1. Sacking his caddie: The 30-year-old, following a series of unfortunate events, got a chance on the PGA Tour again. After earning back his card through the Korn Ferry Tour, he decided to “go another direction” and let go of his looper, Kip Henley. The looper went ahead to express his dismay as he took to X to mention how he’s “back out on the curb looking for a bag” in 2024, alluding to the sourness he feels behind the whole ordeal.

Continuing with his response, the golfer’s ex-baggie conveyed his disappointment with the decision as he said, “I’m… sad it worked out this way.” His decision came as nothing short of a shock to Henley, who had assisted him on the bags for a long time. Moreover, the pair had even raked in two wins in 2023 on the Korn Ferry Tour together, at the AdventHealth Championship and the Simmons Bank Open, which made the split all the more sour for the looper.

2. The infamous Grayson Murray-Kevin Na feud: During the Sony Open that took place in January 2022, Murray had gone ahead to comment on Na’s slow play on Twitter, as he posted, “Kevin Na taking 3 minutes to putt them does get old.” However, the 40-year-old did not take it hanging, as he also responded by mentioning how the former “missing the cut is getting old!”

Did it stop there? No, not even close! The two pros went back and forth many times, including once at the 2022 Mexico Open, when the PGA Tour pro turned LIV golfer “cussed” the 2017 Barbasol Championship winner at the driving range. Na came forward to taunt him owing to the social media beef following which they had a heated altercation with each other.

3. Cussing out Rory McIlroy: A meeting between the players was held following the news of the LIV Golf-PGA Tour merger that came out in 2023. During the same time, Murray went ahead to yell at Jay Monahan and accuse him of lying to their faces. However, the Northern Irishman was quick to back the commissioner up while asking the pro to improve his game rather than yelling as he took a jab, “Just play better, Grayson.

Well, that did not sit well with the golfer, as he told him to “f**k off” following the same. Nevertheless, after the whole fiasco, they were reported to be having a cordial conversation later on, as many spotted them laughing and chatting as a group in a hearty manner. So, guess that’s a load off Murray’s and McIlroy’s shoulders then.

Anyhow, the professional would be hoping to leave all this behind as he hopes to emerge victorious at the 2024 Sony Open. Moreover, he would be aiming to grab the second chance he received with both hands.
