After six months of waiting, Nick Taylor added his fourth PGA Tour victory, and that too terrifically. The last two-hole par-4 playoff was getting intense when Taylor decided to hit a birdie and heard the loudest cheer from the crowd. Taylor’s win at the TPC Scottsdale helped him earn other things as well, apart from the prize money.

The Canadian golfer took home a $1.584 million check with 500 FedExCup points and a direct ticket to the next signature event, aka the upcoming Genesis Invitational. The golfer turned pro in 2010, and after almost 14 years, he now finally sits at his career’s best OWGR.

Nick Taylor jumps up 27 positions in OWGR

The 2024 season was not as welcoming to Nick Taylor as it looked. Although he won the Phoenix Open but a quick look at his records shows that the Canadian golfer was struggling to find his form. At the start of the season, he entered the Kapalua Plantation Course as the RBC Canadian 2023 winner. However, he could not keep his performance on par and missed the cut at the Sentry.

The next appearance at the Sony Open looked promising, and the 4x PGA Tour winner finished T7 with 14 under 266. The game was taking shape, but at the next two events, The American Express and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Taylor missed the cut again.

Starting at 54th at the start of the season, his ranking had now dropped to 55th. However, he beat Charley Hoffman at the People’s Open and his rank took a massive jump and reached the 28th spot (his best OWGR rank to date). Although he was expected to be at the 26th position as per the stats posted on Twitter, instead he settled well at the 28th.

While he did enjoy the sudden shift in his OWGR positions, Taylor had also propelled in the PGA Tour ranking season rankings as well.

Nick Taylor’s one victory takes him 51 places upward

If Nick Taylor successfully keeps his top 30 rank for this season, he will qualify for every PGA Tour signature event and will be eligible to play the Masters as well. His rank did not just change on the OWGR but also on the 2024 FedExCup Standings. Last week, Taylor was outside of the top 50.

That means he could not qualify for the BMW Championship or the Tour Championship. However, according to the live projected FedExCup standings, Taylor is number six on the list, making the jump from his last week’s rank, which was 51st. This is the biggest improvement in any golfer’s rank after the WM Phoenix Open concluded and the biggest turn of events for Taylor’s pro-life.
