The 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has come to an abrupt end! The severe weather conditions at Pebble Beach forced the hand of the circuit’s referee to cut the event down to 54 holes. However, this decision came forward as a gift for Wyndham Clark, who secured his first PGA Tour win in 2024.

The win came with a hefty prize money worth $3.6 million and other exquisite perquisites, such as a magnificent change in his OWGR standings. Clark received a much-needed bump up in his world rankings, claiming his rightful spot with the best ones out there!

Wyndham Clark makes his way upward into the top 10

The American golfer carded an impressive under-17 score after 54 holes, taking a single-stroke lead over Ludvig Aberg. However, this was enough for his first-ever signature event win. Along with a heavier bank account, the 2023 US Open winner also jumped up a few spots—four to be precise—after his victory.

The win at Pebble Beach granted him 75 points, with 71 for his first-place finish and 4 points for a multi-win bonus. With this addition, Wyndham Clark has reached the edge of the top 5, securing the 6th spot. Earlier, Clark proudly sat in the 10th position on the OWGR leaderboard. Furthermore, Ludvig Aberg, who was the runner-up at Pebble Beach, has claimed the 11th spot.

Clark’s lukewarm performances at the Sentry 2024 (T29) and the American Express 2024 (T39) did nothing major to improve this position. The golfer was only able to collect 1.7 and 1.6 points respectively in the previous events.  But, Clark’s win at Pebble Beach surely did its magic.

The American golfer chose records rather than money

Wyndham Clark has bumped his fellow PGAT players Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Brian Harman a spot down, respectively. But there was a time when he could not have done that if he had accepted an enticing offer.

The American golfer revealed the breakaway league did approach him to switch sides. However, the 30-year-old decided to stay with the PGA Tour, rejecting the Saudi League’s offer. I still have a lot of things left in the tank on the PGA Tour, and I wanted to chase records; I wanted to chase world rankings,” he said.

LIV Golf, at the moment, is unable to provide OWGR points to its golfers. This is the reason why many LIV loyalists like Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are falling in rank. Clark has made a bold career decision, which may critique players who switched sides.

Wyndham Clark has proclaimed that he chose his legacy over LIV Golf and will continue to do so. He is now a fully committed member of the PGA Tour, with his eyes on his next event win.
