After a scintillating week at the Memorial Golf Course, the PGA Tour moves to the TPC San Antonio for its second stop in Texas. The Valero Texas Open will kick off on April 4 and will be the last event before the commencement of the Masters Tournament the following week. Thus, it truly is a very important stop for many who hope to get into the field of Augusta National.

Four of the top 10 golfers in the world will tee it off at the 15th event on the 2024 PGA Tour calendar. Meanwhile, many would be curious about when the top golfers will start off their rounds for the first two days in a bid to rake in a cut of the $9.2 million prize purse.

Who to watch out for at the Valero Texas Open

Although it is not a signature event on the men’s circuit, the second stop in Texas boasts quite a powerful field, with the likes of McIlroy (No. 2), Brian Harman (No. 8), Ludvig Aberg (No. 9), and Max Homa (No. 10), among others. They will also be accompanied by the defending champion, Corey Conners.

What’s more, after a victory at the Genesis Invitational, Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama will look to increase his win tally on the PGA Tour to 10 at the Valero Texas Open. Following him closely will be Austin Eckroat, who also came out triumphant this year at the Cognizant Classic.

Meanwhile, many golfers, including the likes of Stephan Jaeger, Matt Wallace, Scott Stallings, and Thomas Detry, had withdrawn from the upcoming tournament. Although Jaeger pulling out can be attributed to him taking a rest for the Masters after his win on the circuit, no proper cause was provided for the numerous WDs at the Valero Texas Open.
