Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s brainchild, TGL, recently announced the field for its inaugural season next year. Among the high-profile names, one person’s omission shocked many. Jon Rahm, surprisingly, pulled himself out of the fledgling league, only issuing a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.

Interestingly, Rahm was the first name to be announced after Woods and McIlroy confirmed their presence. Amidst his recent absence, fans started speculating who could be the 24th person in the league. Although so far the TGL has only roped in PGA Tour pros, it seems like the tides are changing. Now, the Boston Common Golf, McIlroy’s team, has opened its arms to an LPGA Tour pro.

Boston Common Golf remains open to the LPGA opportunities in the league

Boston is home to several high-profile teams in various sports, including the New England Patriots in the NFL, the Red Sox in the MLB, and the Boston Bruins in the NHL. The Boston Common Golf in TGL is a welcome addition to this, and Boston natives have overwhelmingly come in support of it. Among them is one LPGA Tour pro.

So far, the team comprises Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, and Tyrell Hatton. Being a Rockland native, Megan Khang was super excited to have a team from her city in TGL. The 2023 CPKC Women’s Open winner, shared the Boston Common Golf video on her story, commenting, “Soooo, when is the tee time?”

Boston Common Golf was quick to take notice of this and replied on their story, “You’re always welcome.” It will be an interesting addition if Khang is seen taking the first tee shot for the team like Jon Rahm threw the first ceremonial pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks wearing his green jacket.

Rahm’s surprise pullout has raised many speculations among fans. The most pressing question at this moment is whether the 2023 Masters winner has already pledged his commitment to LIV Golf.

Jon Rahm tweeted that he is pulling himself out of the golf league because he can’t offer the level of commitment that is required. TGL, too, shared in their official statement that the 11-time PGA Tour winner will not be a part of the league due to professional reasons.

However, that has not stopped the speculation of him joining LIV Golf in the Fireballs GC along with his compatriot, Sergio Garcia. Interestingly enough, Rahm has scrubbed off everything regarding TGL from his social media handles.

The tech-infused golf tournament, beginning on January 9, 2024, was sported as Woods’ response to the team aspect of LIV Golf. With Rahm out of the equation, if TGL opens its arms to a mixed-gender event, it’ll surely one-up the Saudi-funded league.
