As per expectations, since its onset, the 2024 WM Phoenix has taken center stage in the golf world. Continuing the curse of bad weather following the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the weather situation at the People’s Open has also been a matter of concern. The bizarre fan behavior is another matter of concern that has led to a temporary hurdle in the event’s functioning.

Despite all of this, this event has many talented stars like Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, An-Byeong Hun, and many others in its 132-player field. The lucrative incentives and prize money are helping in toning down the havoc that the aforementioned event has caused this year.

There is a lot at stake at the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course. The ‘People’s Open’ has a huge prize purse of $8.8 million. Further, 500 FedEx points are up for grabs. What’s more interesting is that, out of the hefty prize purse, the winner will earn a total of $1,584,000! That’s a lot of money, you may think. And it is, but there is a twist to the story.

Interestingly enough, the prize money this year for the event in Arizona has been decreased to more than half in comparison to last year. In 2023, the purse was as hefty as $20 million, and out of it, the defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, took $3.6 million home.

Why so? Well, the famous professional golf tournament was part of the PGA Tour elevated season last year, however, that is not the case this year. Hence, the same is reflected in the prize money set aside for this year’s matchup.

This year, aside from the 500 FedEx points at stake, the winner will also receive 58 world-ranking points. Scheffler seems to be trying his best to do the unthinkable and win at the event for the third time in a row.
