The WWT Championship has arrived, leaving the golf fans divided into two camps. Two popular forty-something golfers have tied for the first position, and only one can claim the trophy. The golf world is debating who it should be.

One of them is a former champion of the WWT event and has already tasted victory once. He also performed well at the Fortinet and came straight out of that energetic stint. The other hasn’t had the best of form lately, but that might just make him fight more desperately for this win. Who is going to win?

WWT started off this year without its defending champion, Russell Henley, and the 2-time former champion, Viktor Hovland. Ahead of the tournament, names such as Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala, and Lucas Glover were expected to fight for the title.

However, the two players that are currently battling it out for the $8.2 million purse were not on the list. At least not Camilo Villegas. Matt Kuchar was still under consideration due to his former champion status. Yes, Villegas and Kuchar are tied at number 1, with a 19-under score, after three rounds in the WWT.

The PGA Tour’s Twitter handle posted their pictures and shared their last win on the tour. The 41-year-old Camilo Villegas’ last win was in 2014 at the Wyndham Championship. For Kuchar, it was the Sony Hawaii Open in 2019. Notably, the 45-year-old Kuchar won the WWT Championship in 2018.

Looking at their current season performances, Kuchar does have an edge over Villegas. The 41-year-old has only made three cuts out of the ten events played. Meanwhile, Kuchar had secured five top-10 finishes from the 25 events he played this season. This includes his T7 finish at the most recent Fortinet Championship.

Now that we are done with our comparison, let’s dive into what the fans think.

Who are the fans rooting for at the WWT Championship?

The comment section was quite indecisive, with almost equal support for the two. It didn’t seem like one player was clearly the fan favorite to win this title.

Film enthusiast Brett Murphy (pointman) commented on the tweet, congratulating both players.

One fan even cheered for Villegas, eagerly making his pick known to all!

This one fan was probably referring to Kuchar’s caddie because of an earlier controversy. Or maybe they are just big fans of his current caddie, Brian Reed.

Yet another fan cheered on Villegas with pure excitement.

One greedy golf fan wished that both players could win. Well, even with a tie after the final round, a playoff would follow.

One more fan interested in the caddie controversy dredged up Kuchar’s history with caddies, bringing some old memories to light.

Although, presently, these are the only two players tied at number 1, the player at number 2 is only one stroke behind them. And then another stroke behind are those tied at number 4, with 17 under. One of them is another former champion, Patton Kizzire.
