Earlier this year, when Scottie Scheffler had just returned from a freak hand injury, he wasn’t able to convert his finishes into a win. Maybe this is what led to Phil Mickelson predicting that Scottie would have a winless season until September. Very randomly, he wrote on X, “Here’s a hot take. Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so.” But Scottie, being Scottie, proved Phil wrong. First, at the CJ Cup Bryson Nelson, and now, at the PGA Championship.

So, when Scheffler became the first player since 1983 to win the PGA Championship by 3+ strokes (he won by 5), congratulations were in order. From Mickelson, too. Lefty took to X to praise him for his dominance, writing, “Congrats to Scottie Scheffler on an incredible performance. Clearly #1 in the world. 👍👍.”  To say that Scottie’s win at Quail Hollow was certain would be a lie. These four days were entirely adrenaline-filled. New names popped up on the leaderboard, while prominent names such as Rory and Xander barely made the cut and had a forgettable showing. Despite all that, the world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, after his struggle-filled first two rounds and staying far from the top position, made the comeback.

He shot a brilliant 65 on moving day, earning praise from everyone. He started R4 as a leader and remained so till the end. The Dallas native made 10 bogeys in the tournament throughout, but all thanks to his 19 birdies and 2 eagles, which came from exceptional course stats. He had 72.7% saves, while 65.3% were green in regulation. Now, with such performance, after falling behind, he proved why he is the world #1.

For the win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson as well, Mickelson praised and wrote on X, “So I might have been off on that one. Congrats to Scottie on a great performance.” But now with his post on the PGA Championship, it makes it officially wrong, and he regrets his prediction against the World No. 1.

Not just the competitor from LIV Golf, but his family also got into an emotional moment of praising the golfer after he recorded his third major win.

After celebrating with his wife, he walked towards his mom and dad, who were emotional too. His father said, “Words can’t describe what we just watched.” The praise coming from Father left Scheffler in joyous celebration with a moment of pride.

With all the struggles and performance drops, the persistent effort of the golfer has led to triumph at Quail Hollow. After his win, during an interview, he expressed his struggle and proud feeling after the win. He said, “I’m just really proud of the way we fought this week. You know, I was battling my swing the first couple of days. I didn’t have as good of a prep week as I would’ve hoped to, and it was a battle out there for four days.”

The two-time Masters winner has now stepped closer to his career grand slam with his second major win checked.
