Phil Mickelson is one of the most controversial golfers in the community today. The six-time major winner has made many records on the field, but his words and actions off the course somehow land him in the news now and then. Mickelson recently received a lot of negative buzzes after he made some nasty comments about the PGA Tour in an off-camera interview.

Mickelson is not only notorious for his taunts and comments outside the game but also for some habits he practices on the course. One of those things is his habit of throwing his club in the air in frustration. The golfer has been doing this since the beginning and recently recalled when he did it last. He also talked about how his father gave him a lesson about the same.

Lefty admitted throwing the club in the air out of anger as a force of habit. He also mentioned what his father did when Mickelson behaved this way in front of his old man. “One time I banged a club on the ground when I was 8 or 9 and my dad made me stop playing,” Mickelson said“I had to walk the next few holes until I was able to have fun again.”

That was the last time the golf ace ever tossed the club in the air angrily. He told his fellow pro-am partners about the last time he threw his club away. The players responded, “oh, it’s easy, just whirl it,” teaching him something they could have regretted in their lives. Mickelson followed their advice but made a mistake that almost injured his partners. “I didn’t let go in time and the club goes backwards and misses [their heads] by eight inches,… that’s now officially the last time I’ve thrown a club still.”

Mickelson’s father taught him how to stay disciplined and stay out of trouble on the field. However, the advice his pro-am partners gave him could have taken him to jail for his act of fun. Mickelson has pranked a lot of golfers in his career, especially the ones he has played alongside. Thankfully, his sense of humor has not gotten him into much trouble yet!
