Brandel Chamblee is no stranger to criticism for his strong opinions. While some fans disagree with the golf analyst’s overly critical and almost always blunt methods, others base their hatred on his one professional win in 370 PGA Tour starts. Whatever the reason might be for these critiques, one thing has now been set in stone: there’s going to be a stronger dose of Chamblee at the U.S. Open.

Yes, you heard it right. Whether you love him or hate him, Chamblee is set to be one of the four voices in the broadcast booth of the third major of the season. NBC Sports has recently declared Phil Mickelson’s arch-rival with a history of back-and-forth heated exchanges with the star and three other analysts to fill the shoes of their lead analysts at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2.

Along with Chamblee, the three other booth members of NBC Sports will include Brad Faxon, Dan Hicks, and Mike Tirico. It has also been declared that Roger Maltbie and Jim “Bones” Mackay, who recently split from Justin Thomas, will play the roles of on-course reporters, while Gary Koch will remain an analyst.

However, Chamblee’s prominent role in the field of the US Open was not as well received by critics. While some expressed how they despised his presence, others were quick to ascertain that it would be the reason why they would rather watch the broadcast on mute. But what were their exact words?

Fans express their true feelings on Phil Mickelson’s top enemy’s lead analyst role

One fan wrote, “If LIV offered Brandel 30 million per year in broadcasting, would he take it?” This was truly a ‘million-dollar’ question that raised eyebrows on whether Chamblee if given a chance, would take the big bucks from the Saudi-backed league he openly critiques. However, despite its aptness, it remains a hypothetical question as no such attempts have been made by either party, so far.

Another Twitter user remarked, “Brandel in the booth at a Major? Nightmare fuel. #shame”  Their staunch disappointment was apparent when they deemed it a “shame” to have Chamblee in the booth during a major. He has been very open about his stern remarks and thoughts and that sometimes can fail to sit with a certain part of the audience.

A disappointed user even expressed themselves and said, “Why Brandel? Ugh,” Thus adding fuel to the anti-Brandel Chamblee strife of critiques. Chamblee’s extremely perfectionist ideas have led to an air of dislike against him among fans and players alike.

Yet another fan, strongly expressing their dislike, wrote, “Will be watching on mute! Thank you Brandel!” Thus, affirming that solely the addition of Chamblee to the broadcast experience of NBC Sports will lead them to watch the 2024 US Open on mute. The spree of dissatisfaction against the former professional golfer, however, did not end there.

A more blunt user was quick to write, “Brandel is garbage,” indicating their even stronger disappointment with this new addition to the roster of lead analysts by NBC Sports.

“Can we get a LIV shock collar put on Brandel?” remarked another fan. Chamblee has always been against LIV, and he has not shied away from expressing it. A handful of players from the league are going to be playing at Pinehurst, and the fan’s hysterical comments reflected the same.

Would you be watching the 2024 US Open on mute? or will you be enthusiastically following Chamblee’s analysis? Let us know the in the comments below!
