A friend in need is a friend indeed, they say. Donald Trump and Tiger Woods have proved it. Days after the golfer’s DUI arrest, the police have released the bodycam footage of the entire scene. In it, we see that moments after the police arrived, Woods wandered off to call the POTUS, and the exact conversation that happened between them.

“I was just talking with the president. Trying to get away from everybody,” the 15x major champion told the deputy after he called him back to hang out around the officers. While on the phone, we can hear the 50-year-old golfer saying, “Thank you so much… all right, you got it, thank you, bye…”

Trump and Woods share a long friendship. The duo has even shared the golf course a few times. The president has often praised Woods, calling him one of the best golfers. Trump has also been an integral part of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger discussion and even hosted a meeting that Woods attended.

The 15x major winner has further closed the gap in their relationship by dating Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife. POTUS approves of their relationship, further showing the bond he shares with Woods. Their friendship is the reason Trump felt bad for the 82x PGA Tour winner’s arrest.

Moments after the arrest, Trump said, “I feel so bad. He’s got some difficulty; there was an accident, and that’s all I know. A very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, an amazing man. But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Trump is now happy to see Woods stepping away for a while and seeking treatment for his issues.

“It’s a good thing that he’s doing, but he’s going to end up being terrific. He’s a great guy,” Trump told Reuters. “He’s one of the greatest people I’ve known. He’s a great champion… he’ll be fine,” Trump added. “He’s going to be terrific.”

Even before this, the POTUS predicted that Tiger Woods would remain absent from Augusta National this season. Now, it appears as if things played out in sequence, as Woods later released a statement announcing his withdrawal from the 2026 Masters Tournament and from the talks of 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy to focus on healing and getting better.

Later in the video, the deputy prevented Woods from eating anything after he popped something in his mouth. Later, he asked if he could put lip balm on his lips, but the officer refused again, claiming that the climate was humid already and he didn’t need to moisturize his lips.

Looking back, this isn’t the first time Woods has faced legal trouble under similar circumstances. In 2017, he was arrested in Florida after being found asleep in his car, later attributing the incident to prescription drug interactions. He eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving and entered a rehabilitation program, marking a low point in his career. And in 2021, he was involved in yet another rollover car crash that left his left leg seriously injured.

But why exactly did the officials make the arrest?

Real reason behind Tiger Woods’ recent arrest

After rolling over his car, Woods was visibly cooperative with the officers on the scene. He even confirmed that he wasn’t in any pain in the knees or back. However, the officers found him sweating profusely with lethargic and slow movements. They tested him on the breathalyzer, but the results came in with triple zeroes.

Still, the officers seemed convinced that the golfer was under the influence of an unknown substance. It was later revealed to be hydrocodone, an opioid analgesic that’s used to manage pain. However, it’s also one of the substances that easily causes addiction. On top of that, Woods admitted to reckless driving.

He confirmed that he looked down at his phone to change stations when things went haywire. He crashed behind a truck on a nearly empty road and rolled his Land Rover over. As of now, his attorney, Douglas Duncan, is once again fighting to challenge the DUI arrest from 2017.

But as new information arrives, we can finally get the big picture surrounding Tiger Woods’ recent troubles.
