The year 2022 saw massive changes in the sport of golf. In the latest development, former the Chief Executive of the European Tour, Keith Pelley, has been given a much more responsible role in golf. He was appointed as the new chairman of the International Golf Federation. Let’s take a look at what more occurred during the IGF board meeting last week.

Though the change of leadership occurred in the chairman role, the President of IGF will remain the same. Annika Sorenstam, an LPGA Tour legend and Hall of Famer, was re-elected as the President of the golf federation. Many fellow board of directors expressed their joy and excitement following the new leadership.
Pelley and others express their joy
Most seniors in the IGF were satisfied with the decision. “Keith and Annika will bring extensive experience and knowledge”, said Anthony Scanlon, the executive director of IGF. Pelley too expressed his excitement about being chosen for the big role.

“I am very honoured to accept this important and prestigious role and I look forward to working with Annika and Antony Scanlon”, said the new IGF chairman. Keith Pelley further added, how prominent the IGF is for the development of the sport.
The Canadian said, “The IGF, through its relationships with these member organisations and the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, undoubtedly has an important part to play in promoting this internationally and showcasing golf as a sport for all”. Pelley succeeded the PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, as the Chairman of IGF.
Since so much is being talked about the new chairman, let’s take a look back at Pelley’s impressive career.
Who is Keith Pelley?
Pelley became the CEO of the DP World Tour in 2015. He became the fourth executive chairman of the European Tour in the 50-year history of the Tour. During his leadership, the Canadian oversaw significant impactful changes.

Keith Pelley played a key role in launching the Rolex Series. It was a landmark partnership that saw DP World become the title partner of the group’s main Tour. He also helped in the development of a worldwide network of pathways through collaborations with other Tours and a functional joint venture with the PGA Tour.
The collaboration led to the Scottish Open this season, which became the first co-sanctioned events between the Tours. Moreover, Pelley also indulged in the promotion of women’s golf, as he co-sanctioned ladies’ events such as the Volvo Cars Scandinavian Mixed. He also introduced the G4D Tou, a Tour for the disabled.

Before taking the big role in the European Tour, Keith Pelley was the President of Rogers Media in Toronto. Meanwhile, prior to that, he was also appointed as the President of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

Nonetheless, his new role as the IGF chairman will begin in 2023 and end his four-year tenure in 2027.
