John Daly wouldn’t mind becoming the captain of Team USA in the Ryder Cup

Though Daly never played in the Ryder Cup,  watching USA lose for the eighth time in 10 editions at Gleneagles had him think otherwise. The winning Team Europe’s captain, Paul McGinley, reportedly told John Daly to be the US skipper in the next edition. The American disclosed in a past interview.

The 56-year-old said, “I would love to do it one year. I know it is probably never going to happen but it would be fun for me, it would be an experience, keep the guys loose. The guys just need to be a little loose and have some fun”. Daly further talked about how he also considers Phil Mickelson as a great captain to lead the American Team.

I think Phil would (have the respect of the players). He’s done so well in that format and been on the losing end, been on the winning end. Why wouldn’t you? He knows the system, he knows the PGA of America. He’s a three time PGA champion. He’d be a great captain”, said  John Daly.

Though the future of Team USA was a concern, the team finally ended the winning drought at the 2016 Ryder Cup. Under the leadership of Davis Love III, the Americans managed to get a win against Team Europe. However, it would have been quite a sight to watch John Daly or Phil Mickelson lead Team USA, as the humorous character of both the golfers, would have been entertaining yet influential.
