On the PGA Tour schedule, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a genuinely exceptional competition. It’s the only official team event where the finest players in the world may team up and show off their friendship and chemistry. Five of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will be competing at the TPC Louisiana course this year, making it look like a really special edition. Since 2017, the competition has been a team event, bringing an exciting team dynamic feel to the PGA Tour, which is usually mostly individualistic in nature.
The battle is going to be tough with major players like Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, and the reigning champions Nick Hardy and Davis Riley scheduled to tee it up. Fans may enjoy a genuinely pleasant sight as the Zurich Classic offers a view into the friendliness and camaraderie among the game’s finest players, beyond the birdies and bogeys.
This time, though, there was an unexpected guest on the golf course, which was an alligator ambling across the greens. The PGA Tour was quick to share the light-hearted moment on social media, posting a video to X.

Social media users took advantage of this uncommon sight to make jokes about the PGA Tour’s typically slow play, and the post rapidly went viral.
“Can you walk any slower”: Fans make fun of gator and game pace
The alligator’s appearance appeared to represent the sluggishness of some of the course’s groups. Supporters did not spend time making comparisons between the slow walk of the reptile and some players’ slow play. “Looks like it’s rushing to stay ahead of Cantlay/Schauffele group,” quipped one fan, referring to the pairing of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, both of whom are usually known for their methodical approach to the game, taking their time with their shots.

Another fan had a similar take when they commented, “quicker than Cantlay,” showing their disapproval of the time taken by Patrick Cantlay to take his shots. The audience has gotten used to quicker, more fast-paced gameplay and so a slower approach to the game is putting off this fan and others like them.

There were others who held similar opinions about the slow game. “Bro, can you walk any slower?,” one fan asked. This remark was a satirical jab at the alligator’s slow speed, reflecting the dissatisfaction spectators have with slow players who take an age to set up a shot.
“Who’s that golfer with such pace?” inquires another fan. They are jokingly implying that the alligator’s playing speed could be on par with certain professional players touring the country with this sardonic inquiry.

A fan says brazenly, “At least he can walk the 18 and not need a golf cart.” This comment was a reference to the alligator’s capacity to go about the course entirely without using a golf cart, a convenience that some players find difficulty without, as they fail to sustain a fast strolling pace.
After the alligator made an unexpected visit at the Zurich Classic, fans had a great chance to express their dissatisfaction with the PGA Tour’s slow play, and their funny responses went viral on social media. This will be something the fans take away from the event! You can catch up with the game live on TV.
