Any avid golf fan would have at some point of time heard the name Lexi Thompson. Despite her achievements, the LPGA star seems to be haunted by misfortune and has more than once lost a lead to miss out on a major. The latest such incident occurred in June 2022 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, due to officials imposing a rule. Many, including Justin Thomas, spoke out in her favor soon after.

Justin Thomas, the PGA star, has often been the voice of reason when it comes to the sport. He is unafraid to say what he thinks is wrong with the sport. He sided with Thompson and the LPGA stars after their mishap at their major.

Justin Thomas stood up for the LPGA Women

The golf world lashed out at the tour officials, and along with them, so did Justin Thomas. The two-time major winner posted on Twitter and suggested the officials “read the room.” He added that at that crucial time of the match, it was uncalled for. Thomas wrote, “Putting those ladies on the clock with 2 holes left trying to win a major seems like a good read the room situation, and don’t put them on the clock.”

Thomas, like many others, agreed that at that point in the game, the act only led to rushing the women. At a major, none the less, that kind of decision could easily determine a win or loss, and in that case, it did for Lexi.

As per Golf Magic, at the 17 hole, Thompson’s team was put on the clock, which meant they had to play their shots within a certain amount of time. With only 2 holes left to play, this rush seemed unnecessary, but the players had no choice. They had to rush their shots, and Thompson seemed to crumble under the pressure.

Missing easy putts reduced her two-stroke lead at the top to a one-stroke deficit. Gee Chun capitalized on this and grabbed the lead to take the win. Thompson saw yet another major slip past her, but was it due to the pressure? Or due to the last-minute change to put her on the clock?
