Last week, LIV’s tournament in Tulsa had golf fans on the edge of their seats, with Dustin Johnson eventually emerging as the winner. The 38-year-old Johnson, who claimed his second title in the league with the win, also ended up pocketing the biggest share of the incredible $25,000,000 prize purse.

While his victory has evoked great confidence in fans, especially with the year’s second major on the line, it hasn’t managed to appease the Team USA Ryder Cup captain completely. So, what does the PGA Tour pro think of Johnson’s win? Let’s find out!

Last week, LIV’s Dustin Johnson successfully shut down his detractors with a resounding $4,000,000 win at Tulsa’s Cedar Ridge Country Club. He has now set his eyes on the impending PGA Championship, which will kick off in New York in a couple of hours. But is the LIV Tulsa winner among the top 12 American players at the moment? Zach Johnson, two-time major winner, and U.S. Ryder Cup captain, found it difficult to deliver his verdict.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, he said, “Really difficult for me to judge that. Again, I don’t know the golf courses they’re playing. Never seen them.” Despite his tactful reply, the 47-year-old praised the LIV pro, saying, “He’s certainly in my generation one of the best players I’ve ever competed against.

Johnson further reiterated that it would be unfair on his part to guess the 2020 Masters winner’s “true form” without witnessing the same. So far, there hasn’t been any confirmation about whether Dustin Johnson will make it into the USA’s Ryder Cup team despite being eligible. Before his defection, the 4Aces GC Captain had played in five editions of the tournament and was a part of the winning squads in 2016 and ’21.

Johnson hopes to be in consideration for the international event

Despite the controversy surrounding the defectors and the Ryder Cup, the two-time LIV winner still hopes to be included in the squad for Team USA. In fact, Johnson made his feelings abundantly clear in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald last month. Vying to repeat his heroics from the 2021 Ryder Cup, Johnson said, “It’s something I’ve always enjoyed playing, and in the last Ryder Cup, I played pretty well.”

The LIV Tulsa victor had scripted a 7-9-0 record at the 2021 tournament and was a big part of Team USA’s 19-9 win, and may still make his way into the team. After all, Captain Zach Johnson had shared in April that a full-fledged decision regarding the group of players for the tournament was yet to be made.

Another LIV pro who wishes to be a part of the team is none other than Brooks Koepka. Despite being aware of the odds against the Saudi-backed league, the 4-time major winner said that the players would be “ready to go,” if chosen.
