The future of women’s golf looks bright with new 60!
A tweet was made about a significant moment in college golf history which occurred during the Cougar Classic when Lauren Olivares Leon of North Carolina State became the first woman to shoot a record-breaking round of 60. Therefore surpassing legendary women golfers like Rose Zhang who had even surpassed Tiger Woods’ record for the best competition score but now finds herself second to this new amateur golfer.
Lauren’s phenomenal round of 11-under-par at the Yeamans Hall Club comprised of 13 birdies and two bogeys. Initially, the score was believed to be 59, but during scoring there was an error found on the seventh hole after which the new score became a 60.
She is not just giving competition to women but also to men since there have only been a total of 17 men who have shot 60 at collegiate events. Lauren’s accomplishments extend beyond this single round; she now holds the NCAA record for the lowest 54-hole individual total.

She has written her name in the record books of history as only five other women have shot a 61 at college-level golf before. Her coach, Page Marsh, described her as “on fire” and praised her remarkable calmness.

Lauren Olivares Leon is a junior from Celaya, Mexico who is currently ranked 182nd in the world amateur golf rankings. She is one of the most successful amateur golfers in her country and is ranked third in the national rankings.
