Explaining the role Butch has played in the various golfers’ lives, Fowler said, “He’s coached so many guys to reach, I would say, their potential.”

The 34-year-old also spoke about his former coach, Tillery, and said that he also helped him learn a lot of things, but it just wasn’t the “right fit.” He said that it was because of the 79-year-old’s guidance and motivation that he was able to make history at the US Open.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the lowest score of 8 under 62 was carded on the scoreboard during the opening round. Although his record-making score was only on the chart for 22 minutes, his fellow golfer Xander Schauffele became the second golfer in history to put the lowest-ever opening-round score. Twenty-two minutes does not seem like a very huge chunk of time, but it was certainly enough for the PGA Tour pro, Schauffele to re-write history.
