Jack Nicklaus about joining the LIV Golf before Greg Norman

Norman has been single-handedly moving forward with LIV Golf with the world against him. However, things are different now since numerous players have joined the new league leaving the PGA Tour. And one of the biggest influences on the new league was brought by Phil Mickelson when he decided to shift to the Saudi-backed league.

But there have been several influential people including Tiger Woods and his old friend Jack Nicklaus who have been against the new circuit. Nicklaus mentioned that LIV Golf approached him for taking the lead role in the venture with an offer of more than $100 million. However, the golf legend rejected the offer, and later, Greg Norman was appointed for the position.

“Guys, I have to stay with the PGA Tour. I helped start the PGA Tour,” Nicklaus said. The golf great has 73 PGA Tour victories in his name. Moreover, he helped the Tournament Players Division of the PGA of America to split into becoming the PGA Tour.

Greg Norman’s response to Nicklaus’ statements

According to Norman, Nicklaus had initially given his blessing to the idea of the new league. He also said that Nicklaus was a “hypocrite” for turning against LIV Golf. “One hundred percent truth? Jack’s a hypocrite,’’ Norman said about Nicklaus’ comments. “When he came out with those comments, I’m thinking: Jack must have a short memory.’’

Norman even recalled exactly what Nicklaus said about the new league after attending a LIV golf presentation. According to the LIV CEO, Nicklaus said“This is good for our game. If it’s good for the game of golf, it’s good by me,” However, there was no response from Nicklaus about the allegations. But according to sources, the golf legend even wrote back to Norman via an email that the league had his blessing.
