While the excitement and enjoyment persist at Augusta National, ultimately, it’s still a tournament, which inherently entails competition. Some pros seemed to shoot good scores during the first two days and display their exceptional golf skills, but some failed to do so. Maybe because of their skills, the course’s toughness, or just poor luck! Who’s to say? Well, Rickie Fowler is, and that too is for Justin Thomas.

Thomas fell just short of making the cut for the Masters, unfortunately finishing outside T50 with an overall score of 7-over par. Regrettably, he accumulated a total of six bogeys, three of which occurred on the second day, along with three double bogeys. Despite finishing even-par on Thursday, these double bogeys ultimately sealed the deal for the American pro.

Rickie Fowler talked after his third round to the press and was questioned about whether he had talked to Thomas or not. The PGA Tour pro declined. He also acknowledged JT’s game and talked about how things can sometimes get unexpectedly difficult in golf. “I haven’t. Yeah, no, that’s golf. The conditions as well. I know he obviously made some poor swings coming in,” said Fowler.

Later, following that, the 36-year-old also expressed his sadness about the situation, stating, “That’s not something you want to see for anyone, especially one of my best friends.” The pro further mentioned the possibility of getting in “touch” in the next few days and concluded, “especially with Hilton Head coming up.” Both the pros will be teeing off next weekend, from April 18–21, at the RBC Heritage.

However, in addition to JT, other top-ranked players, including the likes of Wyndham Clark, Viktor Hovland, and Jordan Spieth, and others who couldn’t make it to the weekend at ANGC, The golfers who missed the cut will also be awarded $10,000 for participating since Masters is an ‘invitational.’ Among those who missed the cut, Wyndham Clark’s situation has come as a surprise to many, especially after he exuded sheer confidence on the first day.

How did Wyndham Clark miss the cut?

Clark exuded confidence in his swing, remarking, “We’ve got a lot of golf left… Someone shot 7 under… I could do that tomorrow,” following his first round at Augusta National. However, despite his confidence and subtle dig at Bryson DeChambeau, the current No. 4 on the OWGR failed to live up to his words.

He could only muster a 78 (+6) in addition to his first-round score of 1-over par 73, inevitably missing the cut. It seems he couldn’t replicate the performance he showcased at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. It must have been disappointing for him, but it sure was for his fans, who were looking forward to recreating the magic he did at the 2023 US Open.
