For Robert MacIntyre, success isn’t just about trophies. It’s about keeping promises to the kid who once dreamed of making it big. The Scottish golfer made his second appearance in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. He had a fantastic debut by going undefeated with a 2-0-1. He continued the same in 2025 by winning 1.5 points for his team. He was part of Ryder Cup teams that won the event at home and on foreign soil. However, there’s an unfinished goal he still has to achieve.

“To win two, one at home and one away, it’s what dreams are made of,” the World No. 8 told BBC Radio Scotland’s The Saturday Show. “I’ve literally got one more thing to achieve in the game of golf, and that’s (to) win a major championship. Then I can walk away from the game of golf thinking I’ve done everything I dreamed of as a kid.”

Like other European team members, MacIntyre was a target for American hecklers. Some fans yelled out taunts about his fitness during tee shots and even interrupted his swing at the 17th hole. He fired back with humor after the win. He posted a highlight reel of his best Ryder Cup putts, overlaid with fan jeers, and a sarcastic caption that said, “Keep them coming.”

Participating in two Ryder Cups and winning both of them was a dream come true for the Scottish golfer. But what would have made it even better was the reception he got coming back to his home. After the win, he played in the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. “It was brilliant. I’ve never seen the first tee like this at the Dunhill before. It was absolutely brilliant.” To add to it, he won the title despite extreme weather affecting play. But a major is something he has not achieved yet.

Robert MacIntyre has competed in numerous major tournaments, often coming close to the top. He tied for sixth at The Open Championship and finished in the top 12 at The Masters in both 2021 and 2023. His best result came recently at the 2025 US Open, where he narrowly edged past Viktor Hovland, Cameron Young, and Tyrrell Hatton to claim second place, finishing just behind JJ Spaun.

MacIntyre is in exceptional form, as can be seen through his victory at the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. If he continues with this, he might get a major win in 2026.

The 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship took place over three iconic Scottish links courses, Kingsbarns, Carnoustie, and the Old Course at St Andrews. Stormy weather and strong winds forced organizers to shorten the 72-hole event to 54 holes.
In fact, it didn’t even look like the final round would still be possible, but thanks to the greenkeepers, golfers did get to play the third round and avoid cancellation. For MacIntyre, this opened the door for a milestone moment.

MacIntyre scored three consecutive rounds of 66 across the three courses. He finished at 18-under par to secure a dominant 4-shot victory over his closest challenger and Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton. Hatton was defending his title as the 2024 champion. “It’s brilliant, a special win, and as a Scotsman, there is no other place I’d want to win more than St Andrews. I’ve won a Scottish Open last year, and now a Dunhill Links here, and also a Ryder Cup in between,” the Scottish golfer said after the win.

Robert MacIntyre became the first Scottish player to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 20 years. The last to win before him was Colin Montgomerie, who did the miracle in 2005. He is the fourth Scottish winner in the tournament’s history, following Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher, and Paul Lawrie.

This victory propelled him to a career-high 8th rank in the Official World Golf Ranking. With this victory as his motivation moving forward, a major tournament win could be very much possible for the 4x DP World Tour winner.
