Come January next year, the newest tour in town, TGL will be making its debut. Hailed by pros like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, the golf tour offers its players a never-seen-before format and an innovative, technology-led experience. As the clock inches closer, the league is being highly promoted by Rory and Tiger.

This week, McIlroy is participating in the DP World Tour Championship 2023 being held in Dubai. During the event’s press conference, he took the opportunity to promote his upcoming league TGL.

Rory McIlroy sheds light on what TGL hopes to achieve

The European Tour is hosting its season finale, the DP World Tour Championship where Rory will earn a bonus of $1 million. It is given to the winner of the Race to Dubai, which he won last week. This has already raised the spirits of the Irish golfer.

While attending the press conference for the event, Rory was asked about TGL from a European and global perspective, and what it is bringing to the party, to which the Irishman gave an answer which exposed his key audience. He said, “Younger people hopefully” who are the future of the game. 

So, TGL is trying to get the younger generations involved and trying to have them somehow relate to the game in some way. He added, “So yeah, just a different demographic, trying to put golf on a slightly different platform, and you know if we can increase the interest in the game for a younger demographic.”

He continued, “Hopefully golf doesn’t look like what we are doing in TGL 50 years from now because it is a game to be played outdoors and on golf courses and in the fresh air.”

McIlroy and Woods hope to gain the trust of the younger generation

Woods and McIlroy are smart investors. They realize that the involvement of technology will resonate hugely with the younger generation. Rory thinks that the new game will be able to excite them, as they get to witness a different version of golf. Even if this introduces the young to golf and interests them enough to get involved with the game, it will be a huge achievement for Tiger and Rory.

TGL has already created much buzz, and Woods is taking every chance to promote it. This will also mark the much-awaited comeback of Tiger that fans are desperately waiting for.
