The PGA Tour vs LIV Golf battle is definitely going to be a long one. Alliances have been formed and sides picked. Both camps are clear about their reasoning for multiple issues but one –  the Ryders Cup. The Ryders Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. It is contested every two years with the venue alternating between the US and Europe.

Players from the PGA Tour were united in their stand against the LIV Players playing the PGA or the DP Tours. However, the same is not true of their opinions when it comes to the Ryders Cup. They have different opinions on the issue. Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rory McIlroy, and Luke Donald- all have different things to say.

Considering the different setups of the championship compared to the tours, many players supported the idea of bringing talented players from either camp into the picture. However, Rory McIlroy, one of the eminent PGA Tour loyalists had something else to say.

He said, “I have said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times: I don’t think any of those guys should be on the Ryder Cup team.” McIlroy was rather straightforward in expressing both his opinions and loyalty to the PGA Tour.

Although other eminent players like Jon Rahm chose to look at the situation differently. He said, “The Ryder Cup is not the PGA Tour and European Tour against LIV. It’s Europe versus the U.S.—period. The best of each against the other, and for me the Ryder Cup is above all.”

The reigning U.S. Open champion, Matt Fitzpatrick, was not far behind in expressing his opinions. He said, “I just want to win the Ryder Cup. … I want the 11 best guys we can get. I’m not really too bothered about where they are going to come from.

Only time will tell the destiny of the LIV players in the Ryders Cup. However, what is clearer than ever is Rory McIlroy’s stand on the issue and his loyalty toward the PGA Tour.

McIlroy’s opinion on LIV Golf

Rory McIlroy is a well-known PGA Tour loyalist. So it wasn’t a surprise when Rory thrashed the defectors playing on the DP World Tour. He took a jab at these players not once but twice. McIlroy very bluntly said“They shouldn’t be here, but again that’s just my opinion.”

He also addressed how the drama and uncertainty posed by the conflict between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have garnered attention from both followers and now followers of golf.

Rory McIlroy said, “It’s incredibly divisive, and does it bring more eyeballs onto golf? Probably, because people are interested in the soap opera of it all, but that’s not golf.”
