Rory McIlroy, who is close friends with Tiger Woods, revealed he expected the 15-time Major champion to return this year. Woods is currently out while recuperating from his rollover crash in February 2021. He hasn’t played golf professionally since the Open Championship this year, in which he failed to make the cut.

Rory McIlroy believes Tiger Woods will be back soon

In a recent interview, McIlroy was asked about the whereabouts of golf legend, Tiger Woods. The current World No. 1 didn’t beat around the bush with his answer, claiming the 46-year-old was still rehabilitating.

“Tiger overall is fine, he is still working hard on his rehabilitation, the road is long but improving day by day,” McIlroy said. In a restricted campaign, Woods participated in merely three competitions, which included all Major Championships excluding the U.S. Open.

His performance was a clear indication of a rushed comeback, as Woods failed to make any substantial inroads. He finished ranked 47th in the Masters before withdrawing from the PGA Championship. Along with a host of other stars, Woods failed to make the cut for the Open Championship.

Is Woods making his comeback?

In continuation of the earlier statement, McIlroy revealed that Woods could be back by the end of the year. “After the Open Championship he had to take a break but I think he can be back by the end of the year, maybe already at the Hero World Challenge,” he claimed.

The news will be celebrated among Tiger Woods’ ardent fans, who can now visualize their hero playing before year-end. The Hero World Challenge is Woods’ own host tournament which is contested every year on the unofficial calendar of the PGA Tour. The tournament features a section of the best golfers in terms of ranking points but does not offer any FedEx Cup points.
