The PGA Tour recently took to Instagram to flaunt McIlroy, “making some fans’ days.” Following the round, where he carded a 4-under par, 67, the golf pro set out to share his love for his fans. Despite the dull weather, Rors beamed as he signed flags and caps for the children, who were eagerly awaiting his presence on the sidelines.

In fact, when one little boy handed him an event flag for his autograph, the generous PGA Tour star offered him one of his golf balls instead. Surprisingly, the youngster denied it, claiming he preferred the signed flag. Baffled, amused, and laughing, the 4-time major winner pocketed his ball and signed the flag for the kid.

Back when the Northern Irishman was a child, he looked up to soccer star Roy Keane. Unfortunately, one day, when the golfer came across the Irish legend and asked for his autograph, he was denied. That’s what now drives McIlroy to always interact with his fans, especially the kids! “I asked for his [Roy Keane] autograph at the Portmarnock Links Hotel when he was with the Ireland squad, and he said no. It sort of stuck with me,” he stated grimly in an interview once. “That’s why, if a kid asks for an autograph, I always try to do it.”

After two consecutive rounds of 67, despite the terrible round-delaying weather, McIlroy smiling and laughing with the children could do nothing but melt the hearts of all who watched. And when the video went viral online, they had nothing but praise to dish out for him!

Fans

Amidst the massive applause and cheers he received in person when giving his autographs to the kids, Rory McIlroy garnered massive attention online too. Dubbing him a “sweet guy,” fans flooded the comments on the video for his humble act.

Many appreciated that he had taken time from his busy day for his fans when he could just as easily have left, like many golfers do! “He was great with the kids who patiently waited!” wrote one, while another stated, “Such a great guy!!”
