The LPGA Tour Championship last week marked the end of the season for the women on the LPGA Tour. Only weeks before that, men’s golf saw the same thing happen soon after the FedEx Cup Championship. The winners won a lot of hearts and, of course, a lot of money! Rory McIlroy took the championship win on the PGA Tour, while Lydia Ko added another win to her belt this year with the LPGA Tour Championship win.

Rory McIlroy secures his place at the top

The Irish golfer had a magnificent 2021–2022 season. Not only did he see himself get back into the top 10 rankings, he also reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking in late October and retained it. During the season, the legend competed in 16 tour events, 14 of which he made the cut.

Rory went on to place in the top ten in 10 different events this season. He got a top-5 placement in 7 of those and won 3 of them. McIlroy defended the RCB Canadian Open earlier in July this year, giving him a chance for a three-peat in the current season.

Although he didn’t win any major championships, the Irishman narrowly missed a victory at Augusta. He lost to Scottie Scheffler by three strokes. The champion made a total of $8,654,566 with a score average of 68.67. He undoubtedly had a beautiful season and has a lot to show for it too.

Lydia Ko takes another step towards world rank 1

Compared to Rory, Lydia has had just as incredible a season. Although, she hasn’t ranked number one in the past five years, Lydia certainly paved the way to do so. She played in 22 events this season, making the cut in every single one of them. Ko placed in the top ten in 14 of the events.

Her consistency has been remarkable throughout the season. Ko finished the year with 12 top-five finishes and three victories. With a scoring average of 68.99, she nearly matched Rory’s. Despite not winning any majors this season, Ko earned a lot of money on the Tour. Lydia Ko made $4,364,403 from the 22 LPGA Tour events she competed in.
