In nearly two years, the world saw a gradual shift in McIlroy’s stance regarding the Saudi-backed league. From stating that “There’s no room in the golf world for LIV Golf.” to thinking of the very same league as a competition of the PGA Tour and also seeing it as a beneficial addition for people who play elite professional golf. With the Northern Irishman’s vivid stance, he emerged as a vocal supporter of golf rather than just a league.

Rors softened and a more accepting lookout towards the Greg-Norman-led circuit gave rise to many rumors, the biggest of which was the possibility of McIlroy moving to LIV Golf. The 34-year-old’s reaction regarding his fellow Ryder Cup teammates’ defection to the rebel league further helped in fanning the fire. Recently, some reports suggested that the 24-time PGA Tour winner was offered a deal of $850 million by the PIF-backed league.

However, NUCLR Golf shared a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) in which they mentioned how Jamie Weir, a golf reporter closer to McIlroy, came forward to bust all the speculations regarding the matter. The tweet stated, “#FAKE NEWS —@jamiecweir, a reporter close to Rory McIlroy says reports by @CityAM that state Rory is potentially closing in on a $850M deal with LIV Golf are “complete nonsense.” Apart from squashing the rumors, McIlroy’s upcoming schedule also rules out any near-future possibilities of his defection, as the 4-time major champion will be teeing it off at the upcoming PGA Tour events, the RCB Heritage and Zurich Classic. 

However, after Weir’s comments were made public, the golf world reacted in more than one way. A few were in support of the report that McIlroy will not be shunning the PGA Tour for the lucrative deal. But many were also doubtful, as LIV defectors usually deny the deal before ultimately moving to LIV Golf.

However, as the rumors of McIlroy joining LIV Golf stretched, this sure found that the two mightn’t be as close as before. As the speculations are high in the golf world, with even Viktor Hovland being rumored once again to join LIV, this fan believed that it was all a show by LIV.
