Captain Steve Stricker announced Jim Furyk as his first vice-captain, back in 2019. The 51-year-old has previously served as the captain of the US team at the 2018 Ryder Cup. This will be his 11th appearance at the biennial tournament.

Next on the list are veterans Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. Love has had the remarkable experience of serving as team captain twice; in 2012 and 2016. This will be the ninth appearance for the 57-year-old. On the other hand, it will be the first time for Johnson to be a part of the backroom team. He has represented the U.S. in five Ryder Cup tournaments.

Also in the non-playing squad are the legendary Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples. This edition will mark the end of a record-breaking 12 consecutive playing seasons for Mickelson. Couples, however, hasn’t been part of the team since his fifth appearance in 1997.

European Vice Captains

Captain Padraig Harrington announced Robert Karlsson as the first vice-captain in 2019. The experienced Swedish golfer had previously served the same role in the 2018 edition of the cup. In 2019, Harrington accidentally revealed Luke Donald as the other vice-captain. The British former world number 1 was also the vice-captain at the 2018 Cup, and in his five appearances to date, Europe has won all the titles.

Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell are next on Harrington’s list. McDowell was also an assistant at the 2018 cup and has been a playing member on four occasions. Meanwhile, Martin Kaymer, the young and former world number 1, has represented Europe four times before. In 2012, he made headlines for his sinking a winning putt on the last day of the competition.

The most recent addition to the squad is Henrik Stenson. The first Swedish male to win a major, he is going to be a crucial member at the whistling straits.
