Since his near-fatal accident in February 2021, Tiger Woods has stayed away from the field for most of the 2022 season. The Hero World Challenge was supposed to be Woods’ first return to the course since the Open Championship this year at St. Andrews. However, he withdrew his name from the competition due to a plantar fasciitis on his right foot. Therefore, he could not walk and only focused on his hosting duties. It was a sad moment for all; however, a caddie was sadder.

Woods has suffered, and the golf community is well aware of it. However, his dedication to golf has given him some genuine well-wishers and friends. One of them is Viktor Hovland’s caddie, Shay Knight. After Hovland’s glorious victory at Hero World Challenge, Knight shared some snippets of his conversation with the former number one, Woods.
The 15 times major championship winner is the greatest golfer of all time who has contributed a significant part of his life to golf. He is also devoted to the PGA tour and refused to join LIV, even though Greg Norman offered an enormous sum of money. Now let’s find out why Knight was sad about Tiger Woods.
Are Knight and Tiger Woods friends?
John Rathouz is a host/analyst at The Caddie Network. He recently had a one-on-one conversation with the Hero World Challenge winner’s caddie, Shay Knight. He has been a caddie for roughly 15 years. Before working with Hovland, he worked with Matt Jones, Aron Price, and DJ Trahan. However, he was caddying for Hovland during the Hero World Challenge. Therefore, Rathouz asked Knight about the experience of caddying for Hovland at Woods‘ tournaments.

Without a doubt, it stoked Knight to be part of the event and, above that, to be a caddie for the winner. However, he mentioned that he and G.O.A.T. golfer talked during the tournament, and he still treated him as his idol. However, the experience was surreal for him. But he does feel sad about where the pro golfer has reached now. He said, “it’s sad that he’s got to the point where he is now.” Even though it was an ‘awesome experience‘ for Knight to talk to Woods, the conversation turned out to be sad.

The pro and Knight were talking to each other while Woods was waiting for Viktor to sign his scorecard and do his interviews. They both stood there talking like friends about his son Charlie and his future in golf. According to Knight, Woods was arguably the best player in the world. However, last year has been tough on him, including 2022.
