1995 saw the 124th Open at the Grand Old Lady. The event was not short of excitement and drama. The roster was also filled with stars; Arnold Palmer had returned for the final time to attempt to win a third Open championship. He was also joined by Tiger Woods, who was playing at the Open for the first time. But the superstar of that Open was none other than John Daly.

Besides the star-studded roster, there was another memorable person at the tournament. Mark Roberts, the infamous streaker
John Daly wins the Open
Daly won the Open that year, beating the Italian golfer, Costantino Rocca, in a playoff. Besides the win, another great moment for Daly was that in the crowd that watched him win his second major that day were two parliamentary greats. Prince Andrew and George Bush.

Daly had beat Rocca in an incredible playoff and the entire crowd held its breath. Soon after he putted the ball at the 18th hole to win his first Open Championship, Daly’s wife greeted him with excitement and ran up to hug him. But Daly’s wife wasn’t the only person who ran up then.

Right behind Daly and his wife ran the streaker, creating an extremely memorable day for the golf fans and putting Daly’s win in the history books. Daly and his wife were both excited about the win but also taken aback by the naked runner as well. Both instances made the event even more memorable.
The streaker leaves his mark at St. Andrews
The infamous Mark Roberts was the streaker at Daly’s second major. Streaking back then was the act of running naked in a public place. Roberts has streaked in more than 13 countries, over 500 times. He was present at the Open Championship too, waiting for the perfect moment. “As John Daly approached the 18th green, I got ready,” he said in an interview back in 2009.

Right after John Daly won the fourth PGA Tour event, Roberts ran onto the course completely naked. On his back were etched the words “19th hole,” along with an arrow pointing towards his butt. Roberts was being chased by the police and a friend he had made earlier that day in the parking lot.

As Mark ran past the former POTUS and Prince Andrews, the two applauded and cheered him on. He said, “[I] saw George Bush and Prince Andrew clap and cheer as I ran past.” That, along with the screams and cheers from the rest of the crowd, filled Roberts with pride. Moments later, he came to a halt and was tackled to the ground before being taken off the course.
