Unfortunately, each charge against the golfer carries a penalty for the respective road offenses. Starting with second-degree assault, the punishment for this Class C felony includes a sentence of 5 to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Furthermore, the court would likely order the defendant to pay restitution to any victims injured in the crime.

The penalties for a misdemeanor include up to 90 days in jail and a fine of $250. For reckless driving, there is no jail time, but it carries a fine of $20 to $100, depending on the severity of the violation, along with $143 in court fees. Lastly, for disregarding traffic signals, the 27-year-old could face up to 90 days in jail, a fine of $250, and the same court fees of $143.

Is Scottie Scheffler still eligible to participate in the Olympics?

Scheffler launched into this year with a strong performance, clinching wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, defending THE PLAYERS, the Masters, and the RBC Heritage in succession. Thanks to his outstanding form, he stands as the top contender for participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, slated to begin on July 26th. As per the OWGR qualification criteria, the top 15 golfers are eligible to play, with discretion by deciding authorities if the limit of four representatives per country is fulfilled. Even after this incident, the 27-year-old still has a chance to represent Team USA.

While one might assume that a criminal offense could present challenges for international travel, its impact varies depending on the severity of the violation. Despite this, the conviction has not restricted the golfer from any international travel, thus allowing the two-time Masters champion to remain qualified to play.
