With the BMW PGA Championship having 11 European Ryder Cup players, all eyes are on the players to guess who will be paired together at Bethpage. Interestingly, the Americans who are teeing off at the Procore Championship will be observing closely for better preparation. One of the featured groups already has two players who are part of the team: Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. This makes for good observation for Scottie Scheffler & Co. But Team USA already has access to an edge which was unintentionally leaked from Aberg.

In the post round press conference, when asked, “Do you fancy playing alongside Matt?” The golfer shared his experiences, saying, “Yeah, Matt, we get along great. He’s a great guy. It’s very easy to be around him, and we can chat about all sorts of things that are not even golf related, so that’s always nice.” The duo, being teammates, share great respect for each other. They also haveva shared sense of competitiveness, which is evident at the BMW PGA Championship. Aberg ended the round with eight under, while his fellow Fitzpatrick ended with six under to stand close in the leaderboard. But the great game wasn’t the thing that took the attention as Aberg continued to drop a major hint about Donald’s plan for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

He further added, “Today was one of them days where we both played pretty well. Hopefully we can do that in New York in a couple weeks’ time, too.” Aberg’s first Ryder Cup appearance was in 2023, where he paired with Viktor Hovland and achieved outstanding results. Out of the three sessions (two foursomes and one four-balls), the duo won two of them. First, they won against Max Homa and Brian Harman with a score of 4 & 3. Later, beating Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka. But despite that, the revelation hints that there will be a change in pairing.

Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, has featured three Ryder Cup editions, including 2016, 2021, and 2023. But his results in team sessions weren’t as impressive. Out of five matches, he only won in 2023 when paired with Rory McIlroy. The rest of the result was a brutal defeat. However, despite that, Donald plans to make some unexpected changes that are shocking to the American side. Indeed, it would be, but for the American side, there is a bigger obstacle to finalizing the pairings, as the doubt for Bradley still looms.

Keegan Bradley is still not 100% with Ryder Cup pairings
The leak from Ludvig Aberg might be helpful for the American side, but only if they have their plan ready. Surprisingly, the captain is still figuring out the pairings. Before the Procore Championship, he shared that he is still 90% done with pairings. It seems that the concern pointed out by Brandel Chamblee and Johnson Wagner still sits strong with the captain as well.

Earlier, Chamblee said, “I think Bryson DeChambeau will be hard to pair with. You know, I think he is. I believe Cameron Young plays a similar golf ball, if not the exact same golf ball. But just the style of golf Bryson plays has proved difficult to pair with in the Ryder Cup. His record clearly shows that.” The golfer, with his aggressive style of play and custom equipment preferences, is tough to pair. Even that has resulted in his limited participation in the past. The golfer, out of the two editions, has only played four sessions. In fact, his most successful year was 2021, with Scottie Scheffler having a record of 1-0-1.
But with the plan of giving a heads-up to the players, the captain is still looking to fit the best names together. As he mentioned during the press conference, “One of our goals was to have the guys prepared, ready to know who they’re playing with. Especially in alternate shot, I think that’s more important.” Well, with Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young being the picks of experts, Bradley might consider it too.
